Winter Operations at UNI

DECEMBER 11, 2020 - JANUARY 19, 2021

During Winter Operations, much of campus will shift to virtual operations.

This period will allow us to increase energy savings and deep-clean facilities. Please note the changes that will take effect during this time, including heating systems settings. During this period, most buildings will remain locked. The exceptions are listed below. 

*All buildings will be closed on university holidays.

  • Gilchrist and Facilities Management: These buildings will be open between 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
     

  • Student Health Services: The Student Health Clinic will be open for services Nov. 30 to Dec. 18, and will be closed Dec. 21 to Jan. 8. Students, faculty and staff can call 319-273-2100 to be assessed for COVID-19 testing. Students who have general health-related concerns should call 319-273-2009. 
     

  • Counseling Services: The Counseling Center will offer teletherapy services only from Nov. 30 to Jan. 22. Students can call the Counseling Center at 319-273-2676 to arrange teleservices. The Counseling Center will be closed from Dec. 21 to Jan. 8. If students need to speak to a counselor during the closed period, call 319-273- 2676 and select option 2 to speak with a mental health professional.
     

  • Rod Library: Rod Library will be open Nov. 30 to Dec. 23, and Jan. 4 to Jan. 22 (closed Saturdays and Sundays), from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit the library website to use online resources, request curbside service, or speak to an employee. The Learning Center @ Rod Library will be closed over winter break. Online tutoring is available through Smarthinking. Students will need their CATID and passphrase to gain access. To access the Smarthinking platform, go to tlc.uni.edu/online.
     

  • UNI Bookstore: Store hours during the winter break will be Dec. 7 to Dec. 23 (closed Sundays), from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store will be closed Dec. 24 through Jan. 3 (phone calls will be answered Dec. 28-31). Beginning Jan. 4, Bookstore hours will be Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
     

  • The UNI dining centers will be open to students, faculty and staff throughout Winter Operations. A winter break meal plan is being offered. See their website for details and hours. Biscotti's will also be open Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and closed on university holidays.
     

  • The mail center will continue to deliver mail throughout Winter Operations. If a department wishes to suspend mail service during this time, they must contact the mail center.

  • Please note that priority for snow removal will shift due to the expected low number of vehicles on campus. Those details are available on the Department of Public Safety website. Sidewalk snow removal will remain the same.


Building systems will be in unoccupied (setback) mode during Winter Operations. Below are the details for some commonly used buildings. Please note that the climate settings in campus residence halls, the Biology Research Complex and McCollum Science Hall will not be changed.

  • Wellness Recreation Center: 11/30/2020 – 1/4/2021

  • Business & Community Services, Curris Business Building, Center for Energy & Environmental Education, Gilchrist, Innovative Teaching & Technology Center, Schindler Education Center, and Seerley Hall: 12/21/2020 – 1/4/2021

  • Admissions Welcome Center, Rod Library, Center of Social Behavior Research: 12/23/2020 – 1/4/2021

  • Facilities Management, Gilchrist, Human Performance Complex, and Industrial Technology Center: 12/24/2020 – 12/25/2020 & 1/1/2021
