Update on Today's J&J Vaccination Clinic

Dear Campus Community,

The student vaccine clinic will not be held today after the CDC and FDA recommended a pause this morning on the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. This was the only day this week that this particular vaccine was scheduled to be administered.

The approximately 500 students who had registered for today's clinic have been contacted separately and may be able to register for on-campus clinics scheduled later this week pending the availability of our overall remaining supply of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Complications from this vaccine are extremely rare, but the CDC and FDA said that they are "recommending a pause in the use of this vaccine out of an abundance of caution. This is important, in part, to ensure that the health care provider community is aware of the potential for these adverse events and can plan for proper recognition and management due to the unique treatment required with this type of blood clot."

To date the Johnson & Johnson vaccine has not been administered on campus. People who have already received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine off campus, and who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination, should contact their health care provider.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
