UNI announces updates following new CDC guidance

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

With rapidly declining COVID-19 cases, the widespread availability of vaccines in Iowa, and in alignment with new guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals from the Centers for Disease Control, we are announcing updates to our safety protocols and operations.

Physical Distancing: All departments and units should begin to transition to normal occupancy in common areas (e.g., offices, break rooms, conference rooms, classrooms, etc.). At this time, current Plexiglas dividers and hand sanitizers will remain in place.

Face Coverings: Effective immediately, face coverings will no longer be required campus-wide.

Those who have not been vaccinated are strongly encouraged to continue wearing face coverings in accordance with CDC guidelines. Individuals who are fully vaccinated can continue to wear face coverings on campus if they choose to do so. As we make this transition, please continue to treat each other with respect and grace.

Vaccines: Our ability to loosen these restrictions are a powerful reminder of the benefits of getting vaccinated, and we continue to encourage everyone to be vaccinated as soon as they are able. Our Student Health Center will hold three Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccine clinics on campus next week on the following dates/times:

Tuesday, May 25
8:30-11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, May 26
12:30-3:30 p.m.

Thursday, May 27
8:30-11:30 a.m.

The clinics are open to students, faculty, staff and their family members 12 and older. Please call 319-273-2100 to schedule an appointment.

As we take this natural step forward, please refrain from asking other members of our campus community about their vaccination status or requesting that individuals share their personal or private information.

We will keep the community updated as we prepare for a safe, in-person UNI experience this fall.

If you have any questions, please email forwardtogether@uni.edu.
