Forward Together Update

Dear Panther Community,

Can you help us out?  Why? - “because at UNI, it's not just about me... it’s about our entire community.

UNI student Molly is one of the many Panthers to have already been successfully vaccinated.

"I chose to get the COVID-19 vaccine, because I wanted to protect myself and those around me."

UNI Vaccinated Student

The more people who are vaccinated, the harder it is for COVID-19 to spread, according to the CDC. It even protects those who cannot be vaccinated, like newborns and young children.

When you choose to get vaccinated, you’re not only protecting yourself but those around you. We strongly encourage everyone to get vaccinated!

The UNI Student Health Clinic is offering the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine every Thursday from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. You can walk in or call to schedule your appointment at 319-273-2100.  Not only is the vaccine available at no cost to you, but starting Monday, Aug. 30, all fully vaccinated students can receive a $25 UNI Bookstore gift card. Simply present your UNI ID and vaccination card at the information desk in Essentials (Maucker Union) between noon and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. This offer is good through Friday, Oct. 15.

Free Face Covering for Students

Students stop by the UNI Bookstore customer service counter to pick up a free mask. These UNI themed masks are available now and in a variety of colors.

Please bring your university ID card. The UNI Bookstore hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Testing

Several COVID-19 testing options are available for students, faculty and staff at the Student Health Center including:

  • Test Iowa’s free at home test kit is available for pick-up in the front of the Student Health Center. This test is self-administered and includes step-by-step instructions including how to activate the test kit, collect the test sample, and return it. An appointment is not necessary when utilizing Test Iowa and you should receive your results by email within 2-4 days.

  • Free testing through the Student Health Clinic, in collaboration with the State Hygienic Laboratory, is available by appointment. Please call 319-273-2100 to schedule or stop by the Student Health Center. Test results will be provided by the Student Health Center along with resources and medical advice within 2-4 days.

  • Rapid testing through the Student Health Clinic is available by appointment. Please call 319-273-2100 to schedule or stop by the Student Health Center.  There may be a copay or other cost associated with this type of testing. Test results will be provided by the Student Health Center along with resources and medical advice usually by the end of the day.

Testing Chart

The SHC COVID-19 testing rooms, which require an appointment, are available for students, faculty and staff. The SHC will conduct a rapid or State Hygienic lab test at the patient’s request.  In some instances, students who are having more significant symptoms may need to see a SHC medical provider to have an examination and more lab testing performed.

Panther Health Survey

The university is continuing to use the Panther Health Survey to assist those who are:

  • Experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 (regardless of vaccination status);

  • Have been exposed to COVID-19 and are unvaccinated; or

  • Need to access COVID-19 leave.

If you fall into any of these categories please complete the survey as it helps provide relevant campus support services to those impacted by COVID-19, supports our cleaning and disinfecting efforts, and allows students to receive alternative class assignments.

If you have a question, please visit forwardtogether.uni.edu or email it to forwardtogether@uni.edu. Thanks for all that you do to keep yourself, your family and the Panther community safe.

Stay Well,

John Vallentine,
Associate Provost for Faculty
