Faculty & Staff: Returning to Campus this Fall

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Recently, we shared information about the new committee formed to organize our return-to-campus planning for the fall. We’ve named our return “UNI Forward Together,” and are excited about the many conversations taking place to ensure the healthy restoration of all aspects of campus – everything from our teaching and learning environments to campus events and residence life.

As the UNI Forward Together steering committee and subcommittees work to carefully plan for the fall semester, we will keep our focus on the health of our campus community. We continue to follow guidelines from the Iowa Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control, and the Board of Regents in our immediate and long-term decision making.

The education and experiences we provide our students this fall will include in-person classes as well as some hybrid experiences that allow flexibility for a variety of student gatherings. As always, our courses will feature access to peer mentoring support. We will keep in-person classes as small as possible while building flexible schedules that provide our students with the community, connection, and academic excellence that are hallmarks of UNI.

The Department of Residence is also looking forward to welcoming students back to campus. Residence hall staff members are enhancing their existing health and safety practices to provide a safe living environment for students. Information on the changes being made can be found on the Department of Residence website. Detailed information about move-in, housing, and dining preparations will be posted on the site by July 1.

We will provide additional details about our plans to return this fall within the next few weeks. Additional guidance to supervisors about how and when to reopen offices and departments this summer will be shared soon by Human Resource Services. All offices and departments will be open by August 3 (some will open sooner depending on need).

Please stay updated by visiting the new UNI Forward Together website. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Thank you,

Mark A. Nook,
