As we approach the start of the semester we continue to review processes and make modifications based on guidelines from CDC, state, and county resources. Early guidelines allowed for a variety of face coverings to reduce the spread of COVID-19. More recently, face masks became preferred over face shields alone. In response to these changing guidelines, masks are the preferred and safest form of face covering and are required for all students and employees at UNI while in buildings or outdoors when physical distancing is not possible. Face shields may be used by individuals with medical conditions that prevent the use of a mask and in other unique situations when a mask is not practical. Masks provide the best measure of safety so when you have a choice, you should wear a mask, or a mask with a shield. Students may request accommodations through Student Accessibility Services. Employees who require a face shield accommodation should contact Human Resources regarding health issues, or their supervisor if work conditions limit the use of a mask.
