The enactment of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) provided additional paid leave options for certain COVID-19 related reasons effective April 1, 2020. This included paid sick and family care leave. All faculty, staff, and student employees were provided up to 80 hours of "COVID Leave" (pro-rated for those who work less than full-time). Congress did not extend these paid leave programs which will expire on December 31, 2020.
However, the university recognizes the coronavirus will continue to impact personal and family obligations beyond December 31. As such, by way of an administrative waiver by the President of the Board of Regents, UNI is extending the availability of the unused portion of this paid sick leave for certain COVID-related reasons through June 30, 2021. Completion of the Panther Health Survey will continue to serve as the first step in seeking the necessary approvals to access and utilize COVID Leave.
